No parking required near major transit
Within half a mile of a major transit stop, the City can't make a new project build parking. You can still build some if your tenants want it.

In force since 1 January 2023.
See what this means for your lotThe rule
- No minimum parking for homes, shops, offices or other projects within half a mile of a major transit stop.
- A major transit stop is a rail or bus rapid transit station, a ferry terminal served by bus or rail, or two or more major bus routes crossing with buses every 15 minutes or better at the morning and afternoon peaks.
- Stops planned in the regional transportation plan count too.

What you can build
- Build homes, shops or offices with no parking.
- Build parking anyway. Accessible and EV-charging space rules still apply to what you build.
- Charge for the parking you choose to build. The City can't require it to be free for residents.
What it doesn’t allow
- Use it for a hotel, motel or other short-stay lodging.
- Skip staff parking at an event center.
- Rely on it for every project. The City can still require parking if it makes written findings within 30 days, but never for housing with 20% affordable, student, senior or disabled homes, or with fewer than 20 homes.
Check first
- Bus service changes. A stop that loses service can drop out, so note the stop and its schedule when you apply.
- For an ADU, the ADU law has its own rule: no parking within a half-mile walk of public transit.
